HuskerConnection Update - OL, Joe Thomas

Ok, he's one of the best. Now that we have all the pleasantries out of the way, let's talk recruiting. Everyone wants him to visit, only he has five that he can actually divvy out. He's got three down. Does he know where the other two are going to be?

Joe Thomas - OL - 6-8, 270, 4.78/40 - Brookefield, WI (Central) - Normally, I like these little set-up intros. Just to kind of get you an idea of the young recruit in question. Whether it's their rank, the number of offers they have or them possibly being a diamond in the rough. You know, just kind a little "how do you do".

With Joe, forget about it. He's been profiled so many times, he could make the "most wanted" list just on exposure. So, let's get down to it, shall we?

Joe has three visits down. Yeah, you already knew that. Nebraska, Colorado and Virginia Tech. Joe took all those in October. Well, as long as it has been since he's taken those visits, he's not in a huge rush to take the rest. "I'm looking at the weekend of January the 17th and the 25th." Joe said in reference as to when he would probably take his last visits.

Those schools that sit as candidates for the last two visits are Stanford, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Kansas. Joe said that his trip to Kansas is actually a track and field visit, as he is also looking at throwing the discus and shot put in college, if possible.

It's pretty simple to describe what a school has to have to get Joe's attention. Academics first and everything after that, second. "Academics are definitely high on my list." Joe said and thus far, Notre Dame fits that particular criteria the best. Other things that will also go into that decision like Tradition, fan support, facilities and so on.

Because of the late date expected for his last visits, you can figure on when a decision will be made. Signing day is a good guess, but he'll have a week or so between his last visit until that time, so it's still possible for an "early" pull of the trigger.

Joe said that nobody leads, but at this point, that's about the right thing to say and considering who is recruiting him, that's probably a good thing to say as well.
