Walking on

There might have come a time when getting a scholarship was the goal. However, being from the state of Nebraska, becoming a Cornhusker is something that just about every kid born and raised in Nebraska dreams of doing. That's why when the opportunity presented itself to this player from Omaha that he jumped at the opportunity to stay close to home and play for The Big Red.

Nebraska is wasting no time nailing down some recruited walk-ons to help their rebuilding process. The latest is Ron Kellogg, a 6-foot-1 and 205-pound quarterback, from Omaha (Nebr.) Westside.

"I am talking a recruited walk-on spot," Kellogg said. "I am coming in this weekend for an official visit. Nebraska likes me to play quarterback."

Kellogg has grown up with the dream to one day play in Lincoln. It goes back as far as wearing Nebraska gear for Halloween.

"I am real excited to get to Lincoln and play football. It's been a dream since the days of Tom Osborne. Do you know those kid Halloween outfits of football players? I was a Cornhusker."

Kellogg was very close to picking up an offer from a couple of schools. However, he and his family discussed those options and it was decided that Nebraska was just a better fit.

"I was in the process of talking to North Dakota State and Iowa State about a scholarship, but after talking to my parents we thought it would be a lot more reasonable to just go down to Lincoln."

Kellogg will be in Lincoln this weekend for an official visit along with other recruited walk-ons, Ty Kildow and Brodrick Nickens. Kellogg wants to get a look at some key areas on the visit.

"I want to see the atmosphere that the campus provides. I would also like to see a more in-depth look of the facilities with the weight room and the training room.

"I really can't wait to meet Coach Bo Pelini and have a little conversation with him. Academics are really important to me so we are going to focus on that aspect too."

Kellogg is no stranger to Lincoln. He was up to three games this fall as an unofficial visitor. "I went to the Colorado game, the Kansas game and the San Jose State game last year."

Ron is the son of former Kansas basketball standout, Ron Kellogg, Sr. Kellogg took home the MVP of the Quarterback Camp this past summer in Lincoln.
