Martin Pondering Decision

Rancho Verde (Calif.) linebacker Eric Martin wrapped up his official visit to ASU today. Now, comes the time for him to evaluate each of his suitors before making a verbal commitment. Have any of the schools pursuing him emerged as a leader? Does he expect to commit before signing day? Devils Digest caught up with Martin to get answers to those questions and others regarding his recruiting.

"I liked everything on that visit," said the 6-1 232 Eric Martin about his official trip to Arizona State. "I really didn't expect it to be that nice, so I guess I was surprised by everything I saw. My host was Omar Bolden. I know him when I played against him my sophomore year. He was real cool to hang out with."

Martin visited Arizona and Nebraska earlier this month, and sated that those schools along with Arizona State are right now dead even on his list of favorites. "I'm still thinking about my decision," he noted. "I'm ready to go out now to the beach and chill out. I might make up my mind later tonight or Monday.

"All three schools are great and any decision I make will be between all three of them."

The Mustangs ended their 2008 campaign at 10-1. During that season Martin collected 150 tackles, four fumbles caused and two interceptions (one for a touchdown). He also tallied six sacks, and two fumble recoveries.

"I'm versatile enough to play all linebacker positions," Martin said. "I just want to get on the field, so wherever coach puts me is OK by me. I feel that I can be the leader on the team and take the team on my back if I need to."
