Allen, a six-foot-five, 250-pound defensive end, is good friends with a couple of his current West Monroe teammates, Barkevious Mingo and Tyler Glynn, who will both be playing football for the Tigers next year.
When Glynn and Mingo informed Allen that they were heading down to Baton Rouge for the weekend he decided to accompany them on the trip.
“Tyler had to register for classes and Mingo was going with him so I decided to come too so that we could all hang out,” Allen said. “Anytime I get the chance to come down and talk to the coaches and get to know them more I’m going to take advantage of it. We have a lot of friends down here so it’s a good place to get away to too.”
Allen, who was a LSWA Class 5A First Team All-State selection after recording 60 tackles including nine for a loss and nine sacks during his junior campaign, has offers from LSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Nebraska.
An early commitment from Allen, who is one of the state’s premiere prospects for 2010, would be big for the Tigers and Les Miles along with defensive line coach Brick Haley made sure that the West Monroe product knew where he stood.
“They tried to get me to commit but I told them I wasn’t ready yet,” Allen said. “I told them that I liked everything about LSU and they were still there at the top, but I’m just not ready to do anything yet.
“They were fine with it and they just wanted me to know that I was at the top of their list,” Allen added. “It was another good opportunity to get to talk to them more and they’re both some great guys.”
