Husker starting pitcher Jordan Roualdes (1-1, 4.56 ERA) surrendered 3 earned runs, while pitching 6 innings and earning his first win of the season. Roudales had to battle both the Matadors, as well as the elements in today's game, but managed to earn the win.
The game time temperature was 42 degrees outside, with a strong 17 mph wind blowing light rain all over the field. The California product Roualdes admitted after the game that he had never pitched in bad conditions. "Fog days were the coldest when it was 55, I remember it was 55 and we're dressed like this and asking for heaters."
Nebraska gave their starter plenty of offense, scoring 11 runs and lining 12 hits. However, the big lead didn't faze Roualdes. "To me, there really isn't any adjustment. It's the same mentality as if we were down 8-0. It's just pound the zone, get outs, and get the guys in and keep them warm."
The Huskers bring their record up to 8-3-1 after the win. However, the Huskers and Matadors were given 40 minutes between games of the double header. Game 2 of the double header starts at 4:40 pm. The two teams then meet again on Sunday afternoon at 1:05.
