Kaczor talks spring game

The Huskers only took a couple of scholarship players from in-state last year, but a good chunk of their recruited walk on class hailed from the state of Nebraska with most of them not being in recruiting databases all year long. Austin Kaczor has been a name many have heard about from Ewing (Nebr.) already this year and he was in Lincoln this past weekend.

If there is a hidden gem in recruiting the state of Nebraska this year then it might be Austin Kaczor. Kaczor, a 6-foot-4 and 209-pound tight end/wide receiver with 4.7/40-speed was in Lincoln (Nebr.) this past weekend for the spring game.

"Oh my, that was something," Kaczor said. "Just taking the part in the tunnel walk, that was amazing. Getting a chance to see the weight room was great.

"We go to Nebraska games a lot, but that was really the first time that I have gotten close to all of the facilities and stuff like that."

There was really something that stood out to Kaczor about the weekend. He said leading up to going out to the stadium that the recruits got to go out of the tunnel walk before the team.

"The experience of getting to meet Bo Pelini and stuff, him getting us pumped up to walk out that tunnel and then seeing 70,000 or 80,000 people. It was sweet."

The Huskers are looking at Kaczor at one of two offensive positions and have never discussed defense to him. As a receiver, Kaczor has great size and speed to use to his advantage.

"Nebraska likes me to play tight end or wide receiver. They haven't mentioned playing defense, really. I have good speed and size. I can also break tackles. I can run you over."

Kaczor had an amazing junior season last year on both sides of the ball. He also played a position on defense that gives you some idea to the type of athlete that he is.

"I had 19 touchdowns receiving, almost 1,100 yards receiving and like 120 tackles and 8 interceptions playing cornerback. Pretty big corner, huh?"

There are plans to head back down to see Lincoln again in June for camp. He will also be at another spring game this coming weekend while he is in the area for basketball.

"I am going to Nebraska's camp on June 8-10. Also, we do some team stuff this summer. We have passing leagues and work out together.

"I think that I am going to go to the spring game at South Dakota State. I have a basketball tournament up there this weekend, so we are just going to stop by."

There aren't any offers yet for Kaczor, but he is getting a lot of really nice football attention. An offer could come after just a good showing at a summer camp or just a few games this fall.

"I don't have any offers yet, but I am getting interest from Ohio, Iowa State, TCU and of course South Dakota State and Nebraska."

Kaczor might actually be getting more recruiting attention for basketball. He has been getting interest from teams like Creighton and Purdue and led the state in scoring last year.
