Staying open

Different football camps are going on all around the country, and a good showing by a prospect can sometimes lead to an offer. This was the case with Anthony Brown at the Rising Stars Camp at USC earlier this week. Does the new offer by the Trojans mean the Huskers are out of the picture? Find out the latest inside.

The last time Big Red Report touched base with Anthony Brown out of Fontana (CA), he was getting ready to hit one of the biggest camps on the west coast. The Rising Stars camp at USC is known for having elite talent year in and year out. But Anthony is a player who likes a challenge, and that competitive streak paid off earlier this week.

I hear you went all out at the USC camp and picked up a new offer.

"Yeah, I got the USC offer right after the camp was over. They just played me at defensive back there. That is what they have been looking at me for. At all the other camps I have played running back. But the USC coaches said they wanted to see me play some defense.

"They told me they had all these big-time players they wanted me to go against, and I said lets do it. All those 4 and 5 stars don't help you out on the field, it's all about who wants it more, and who will compete.

"I guess I had a good performance that day and earned the offer. The coaches said they want me as an athlete."

So what now, is a commitment to the Trojans imminent?

"No, I'm going to wait it out. I can't shut it all down right now. That's really only one school I've been to and I need to see what else is out there for me. I want to get out there and see other schools that have offered."

With offers now from Nebraska, USC, Colorado, Iowa State, Nevada and UTEP, Anthony said he hears a lot from different programs in the Pac 10 and Big 12, but one school in particular seems closest to offering.

"I get the feeling Washington is about to offer, maybe in the next week or so, and maybe a few others. I plan to hit a few more camps this summer, some others may still come in. I'll just keep doing what I've been doing, and let God take me where I need to go."

How has the communication been with Huskers, are they still one of your top schools?

"Oh yeah, I talked to coach Carl Pelini the other day. I called him on the phone a couple of days ago. He wants to make sure I come out to Nebraska for an official visit and see the place. I know they have a lot of good things going on out there from what I've seen on the internet."

Has Nebraska got position specific with you yet, or are they saying athlete?

"Nebraska wants me at running back, but they know I could play defensive back too. It doesn't matter to me what position I play. I'm good at both and it won't affect my decision."

Anthony has a few more camps in mind, but at the same time he's also looking forward to the fall, and taking in some official visits.

"I'm going to keep training and working out real hard every day. I'm going to the B2G camp this Sunday, and then in July I'm going to try to hit the Top Gun camp in Orlando. I'll keep researching these schools to see where I'm going to take my official visits then go from there. I was thinking I might be able to take some unofficial visits this summer, but I think I need to wait and just take my five (officials)."

Do you still see Nebraska being one of those official visits?

"You already know, Nebraska will be one of my five for sure. I've already checked them out online, now I need to see things for myself. They have a lot of good things to offer and I want to check it out. I know they have some of the best facilities in the country, and I want to see that in person."

Anthony came in at 5-foot-11, and 183 pounds at a recent camp. He's also been hitting in the 4.4's consistently in the 40, so speed is part of his game too. Stay with Big Red Report, as we will continue to bring you the information on his recruitment throughout the summer.
