Maybe an official visit?

It's tough getting out during the summer to see colleges, especially when the schools are far away. That is exactly the case for Elliot Porter who has seen his share of schools this summer, but there are still a couple that he hasn't been able to see. Rumor is he might be on the verge of committing, but he still might take official visits too.

At 6-foot-4 and 280-pounds, Elliot Porter is one of the most highly recruited defensive tackles in the nation. Porter, from Marrero (La.) Archbishop Shaw, said that he has been working out a lot this summer.

"Everything is going pretty good," Porter said. "I am really lifting a lot of weights and working out a lot."

Porter is hoping to stay healty this year despite playing in all games last year with an injury. Porter finished his junior year with 85 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 11 sacks.

"I got hurt last season, pulled my groin and I still played 16 games. I am good now, probably 95% of the way back to a full recovery."

Porter has lost exact count of his offer total, but it's kind of irrelevent now. Porter has things narrowed down to five or six teams.

"I have 20-something offers. I don't really know for sure. I have things narrowed down right now. There are about five or six schools.

"I have things pretty narrowed down to LSU, Florida State, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State."

There is definitely a benefit to an early decision for Porter. He would rather not let his decision linger much past the start of his senior year. "I am more than likely going to make a decision before the season starts. It would be a good idea to get some things out of the way before the season."

Porter has had a chance to get out and see some schools already this summer. Besides the schools that he has seen, he isn't sure if he will take anymore trips this summer.

"I have been to Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Florida State, Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss. I am not sure if I will make any more trips this summer or not."

The Huskers are a team that are on Porter's list, but haven't got an unofficial visit from Porter and likely won't. That's not because Porter hasn't looked into it.

"I would like to go and see Nebraska. But, believe it or not, it's too expensive to travel there. I wish that I could see them, but we have to pay for that ticket.

"It's hard to get out and afford a ticket to see a place like that. My father and I looked at tickets and they were very expensive. I am going to try and see them, but it might be an official this fall."

That brings up an interesting situation. An official visit wouldn't come available to take by Porter until he would like to commit. So, does he plan on taking trips to schools even after he commits to a school?

"If it came to me being able to taking some trips after I commit, I might look into that. I would like to see them before the season or school starts, but this is hard."

While Nebraska hasn't secured a visit yet from Porter, and might need to try and grind one out after Porter commits to another school possibly, it should also be known that Nebraska has been in a lot of contact with Porter.

"I am actually going to talk to Coach John Papuchis here in a minute. I really like Coach Bo Pelini and that he was at LSU.

"I like talking to the head coaches at the schools recruiting me. I have talked to pretty much everybody over at Nebraska."
