All uniforms worn by the Huskers in the Louisiana-Lafayette game this season will be auctioned to the highest bidder on Huskers.com, which began this morning. The uniform sets will include jersey, pants and helmet. Numbers 1 through 99, with the exception of 20, 60 and 64 (which are permanently retired) and 61, 72 and 97 (not currently assigned) will be available for auction. Although some players wear duplicate numbers for Husker games, only one uniform set per number will be auctioned.
Members of the 1962 team have been invited to a reunion dinner and celebration the night before the Sept. 26 game and will be honored on game day. Today, four members of the 1962 team as well as a couple members of the 2009 team, helped to launch the auction as well as new commemorative apparel by modeling the uniforms and gear. Members of the 1962 team on hand for media interviews Friday included Quarterback Dennis Claridge (Lincoln), halfback Willie Paschall (Omaha), left guard and '62 team captain Dwain Carlson and center Lyle Sittler.
The minimum bid will begin at $500 with bid increments of $25. A $15 shipping fee will be added to the winning bid. All bidders must first apply for a bidding number on Huskers.com. Ticket and donor account numbers will not work for this process. Funds generated from this auction will directly benefit University of Nebraska student-athletes. The auction will close on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009
