Huskers after Missouri DE

Kony Ealy, the 6-foot-5 225 pound TE/DE prospect from New Madrid (MO) says five schools stick out at this time. Where does Nebraska find itself on his list of favorites? Find out in this most recent update with Big Red Report.

After a tough loss last week to Potosi (MO) in game two, Kony Ealy's team finds themselves at 1-1 for the season. And while the talented athlete says he is happy with his performance so far this season, he still thinks there is always room for improvement.

"We handled Central (MO) in our first game, but we didn't come out and play our game last week, so we lost. I have scored a few (2) touchdowns on offense, I was playing wide receiver; I think one of them was about 30 yards. But on defense I need to start playing better, I haven't been playing up to par. I don't know all my stats, but they aren't good enough. I need to step it up this week against Charleston (MO). We need to win this game."

How many offers are you up to now?

"I don't know how many I have. Some of them are Arkansas, Mississippi, Auburn, Missouri, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Nebraska and Illinois. I've got more but those are the ones I'm looking at the hardest. My top five would be Auburn, Memphis, Georgia Tech, Missouri and Nebraska."

Of those top schools, who would you say is coming at you the hardest?

"I would have to say Missouri and Nebraska. Missouri has been recruiting me for a long time, and Nebraska was my last offer. I've been in touch with coach J.P. from Nebraska, seems like a real nice guy. I get a lot of mail from him and we spoke on the phone. They (Nebraska) want to get me up there for an official."

Do you think that will happen?

"Yeah, I just need to check my schedule against theirs and see if I have an open date, if not it will be after the season."

I heard you took a visit to Missouri for their season-opener, did you enjoy the trip?

"Yes I did, it was just an unofficial though. I liked it, I had a good time. The crowd was nice and they won the game pretty easy."

Did you think about committing? Word is Missouri is the team to beat.

"No, I never thought about committing. Those five schools are all even really, I can't say I have a top school or anything. I haven't even taken any officials yet."

Have you set up any other visits as of today?

"Not yet, I'd like to take a few before the year is over, but I might have to wait until it's done. More than likely it will be after. I have a lot of school work to stay on top of and we have practice every weekend, so it might be better if I wait."

With all that being said, it sounds like you are nowhere near a decision.

"Nope, I plan to sit tight right now. I want to see the other schools before I do anything."

Big Red Report will continue to keeps tabs on the recruitment on Kony Ealy, and bring you the latest as it comes in.
