Ready for Lincoln

In an effort to bring speed and athleticism to their roster, the Huskers made an early offer over the summer to Curtis Carter, the talented playmaker from Stonewall (LA). Shortly thereafter he set up his first official visit to Nebraska, which will take place this weekend. What are his thoughts on the upcoming visit? Could we see a commitment? Find out the latest inside.

But even with that big visit set for this weekend on his mind, Curtis has other business to take care of first.

"We have a big game this Thursday night, Parkway on the road. We've had a good week of practice though, all my guys look ready. The team got together yesterday and studied the tape of their (Parkway) game last week. I'll probably play a lot of defense this game too, they have a good offense.

"I'm just hoping it doesn't rain, it's been storming down here every day. I would like to play at least one game on a dry field," said Carter. "We had to practice inside the gym all week."

It also appears another program has cranked up their recruitment of the star athlete.

"I started hearing from Alabama again here recently. My recruiting coach, coach Bo Davis, called me the other day. He said he lost his cell phone and all his numbers, so he couldn't reach me, but he said now they plan to start recruiting me again. They want to bring me in as an athlete, but I think they like me more at corner. They want to get me in for a visit too."

Does position make a difference in your recruitment?

"I prefer wide receiver."

What time to do you fly out for your official visit to Nebraska?

"I get on the plane Friday at 11, leaving from Shreveport, stopping in Houston, then to Omaha. I think I'll get to Nebraska about 5, something like that."

Are you looking forward to the trip?

"I'm so ready for it, you don't even know. I haven't even seen them play at home yet on television, only game I've really seen was the game against Missouri the other night on ESPN, and that was a road game.

"I'm ready to see all the coaches and meet some of the players, and don't worry, I've got my warm coat packed. I know they have a few guys on the roster from Louisiana, so I'll probably talk to them a little bit too. I want to meet all the coaches, it's been a long time coming.

"All I have really seen of the place is on YouTube, I can't wait to see it in person. I talked with coach J.P. through email earlier today, he said he is excited to get me up there."

And as was reported by Big Red Report earlier this week, the people in his community hope it's the only visit he takes.

"You were here last week, you saw how it is. Everybody around here wants me to commit to Nebraska. I keep hearing things like ‘when are you going to do it?', ‘are you going to do it on the visit?' stuff like that. They are on me about committing just has hard as anybody," laughed Carter.

And what about that, is a commitment possible?

"I still would like to wait until around Christmas, but I don't really know. Once I get up there and see everything I'll have a better idea what I want to do."

Curtis has only been to one campus to see a college game in person, LSU. So he is looking forward to seeing the Nebraska game day atmosphere, and what Nebraska has to offer up-close. Stay with Big Red Report for updates on Curtis Carter, and his visit to Lincoln this weekend.
