Irish Still In The Mix With Cooper

Corey Cooper is one of the few remaining recruiting targets that hasn't finalized his college decision. The standout athlete from Proviso East (Maywood, Ill.) hasn't had a chance to speak with the new head coach at Notre Dame, but he's anxious for the opportunity.

Corey Cooper (6-foot-2, 195-pounds) had been warming to the idea of playing his college football at Notre Dame, but the head coaching change has made him pull back quite a bit. The Irish still have a chance to land Cooper, and he's willing to listen.

"I haven't talked him yet," Cooper replied when asked if he had been contacted by Brian Kelly. "I talked to coach Alford though. He just said that he was going to be the one recruiting me and that he was going to be taking over coach Ianello's responsibilities. And that coach Kelly would be calling me shortly."

Cooper had been one of Charlie Weis' top recruiting targets in the secondary, and despite the turmoil at Notre Dame over the past several weeks, Corey is still very interested in the Irish.

"Coach Weis left, and I was comfortable with coach Weis," Cooper explained. "But there are too many great things about the program for me to cross them off my list. Notre Dame is definitely still under consideration. I think (Brian Kelly) is a good coach and I'm looking forward to meeting him. They got a good coach and Notre Dame is a great program, so they're still there.

"I'm done with my visits. I'll most likely decide on signing day between Illinois, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Arizona."
