The Huskers have opened Big 12 Conference play with a 3-0 record with wins over top-25 foes in Iowa State, Texas and Baylor. The wins over the Cyclones and Lady Bears both came on the road, while NU ran to a 91-79 win over the No. 19 Longhorns in Lincoln on Jan. 12.
Nebraska is one of just three unbeaten teams left standing among the 345 NCAA Division I women's basketball schools, joining No. 1 Connecticut and No. 17 Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Huskers join No. 12 Oklahoma State atop the Big 12 Conference standings at 3-0.
Texas A&M remained in the top 10 at No. 9 this week, falling one spot after losing at No. 13 Oklahoma on Sunday. Baylor slipped one spot to No. 10, while OSU climbed to No. 12 with a road win at Kansas and a home win over Kansas State, Nebraska's next opponent on Saturday, Jan. 23, in Lincoln. Oklahoma remained at No. 13 after losing on the road at Baylor before beating the Aggies. Texas slipped one spot to No. 20, after notching a double-overtime win at Texas Tech on Saturday.
Another newsmaker in this week's AP poll was Vermont (14-3), which joined the top 25 for the first time since 1993. The Catamounts, whom the Huskers defeated 94-50 in Burlington, Vt., on Jan. 4, entered the poll at No. 24. Vermont's only other losses this season are to No. 1 Connecticut (84-42) and No. 12 Oklahoma State (68-63).
