Great time for Turner

The first time that Jamal Turner was in Lincoln the Huskers beat the Oklahoma Sooners in a night game on primetime television. Today Turner was in Lincoln for the annual Red-White Spring Game and said that today was actually better than his first trip to Nebraska. Tall words, but Turner had nothing but great things to say about being in Nebraska, right now.

One of the more exciting verbal commitments to talk to is Jamal Turner. Turner is in Lincoln for the spring game and when he called Big Red Report he was hanging out with a 2010 commitment.

"I am hanging out with Donovan Vestal right now," Turner said. "We are just hanging out in the hotel. We just got done with dinner after the game and came back over here."

Turner and Vestal were in attendance for the spring game. Turner was blown away by the size of the crowd and how many more people knew him after he committed.

"Oh my, there were 77,000 people there today for the spring game. That is so crazy. I had so much fun. I signed so many autographs today. It was so much fun.

"The coaches have always been nice, but more people knew me out of the fans. Since I committed, more people knew who I was this time I was up there."

Turner liked what he saw on the offensive side of the ball. He thinks that he's a good fit for the offense and says that there is actually one formation that wouldn't require a big personnel change like it did today with him.

"They ran one trick play with a lateral pass, on the ground and the wide receiver caught it. They had a lot of nice plays and ran a lot of option today.

"I really see myself in the offense. A couple of times they got into the Wildcat with Rex Burkhead and I know that I can do that and just stay on the field when I get here."

Turner saw more than the game. He got a change to see some of the facilities and he saw the academic support center. He said the construction to the center was impressive.

"I saw the locker room and I spoke to the head of academics. They said that they are doing some construction and improvements to the academic support center. It's going to be done soon."

While Turner was on campus he ran into a quarterback's family. The quarterback, and his family, were all very pleasant to him and were excited that he was coming to Nebraska.

"I met Cody Green's mom and his sister. They all stopped me because they recognized me. They told me that they were happy I was committed and coming there. He was even happy. They were all really nice people."

Turner was in Lincoln for the Oklahoma game last year and that was a heck of a game, but according to Turner the spring game was a better experience.

"This was the best. It was just a practice. I walked and saw the whole campus. I was hanging out with Donovan and he was showing me everything. It was hot here too."

Turner was one of the five unsigned commitments that were in town this weekend and Turner was working one of the uncommitted defensive tackles. In fact, he had a bit of a scoop.

"I was talking to Kevin Williams on the sidelines. I was actually working him pretty hard. He said that he was going to commit to Nebraska, but I am not sure if he did or not."
