Strong spring game for Johnson

Lyndell Johnson has a nice amount of offers right now, but he's not letting it get to him. The list of offers has teams such as Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Arizona to name a few, but none of them stand out. This spring was all about business on the field and last night Johnson's efforts paid off.

It was the spring game for Plano (Texas) East last night and Lyndell Johnson let everyone know why he is so highly sought after and touted with his impressive performance last night.

"It went really well," Johnson said. "We had a lot of different schools every day there at East. We had our spring game yesterday and it went pretty good.

"I had a pick, led the team in tackles and I scored. I scored on offense off of a trick play. I don't know how much I will play offense this fall, probably not a lot."

Johnson wanted to improve everything in his game from last year to this year, but there were really two areas that were at the top of his list.

"I really wanted to get better at everything. My main thing was to get stronger and faster. Those were really the biggest two areas that I wanted to improve."

Johnson is big, 6-foot-3 and 195-pounds, and could play linebacker potentially at the next level if he continues to add size, but everyone definitely likes him as a safety now.

"Everyone likes me as a safety. I think that my strengths are that I am a ball hawk, I am aggressive on the field and I have athletic ability."

This spring was all about getting ready for his senior year for Johnson. While there are probably some trips he would like to make, he has yet to take one or firmly set one up.

"I haven't taken any trips this spring. I also don't have any plans to take any trips anywhere as of right now."

Johnson is sitting on close to 20 offers from teams such as Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Arizona, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, SMU and TCU among others, but he hasn't trimmed his list and isn't favoring any of them.

"I have 18 offers right now, I think. I haven't trimmed my list down and I am not favoring anyone right now."

The offer from Nebraska reached Johnson last month. To be honest, the offer is new enough that Johnson hasn't had a chance to do any research on Nebraska, but he would consider visiting.

"I picked up the offer from Nebraska in April. I don't know a lot about Nebraska. I haven't had a chance to study them a lot, but it's a school that I would consider visiting them."

Johnson is looking for a school that will allow him to get on the field right away. It would help if the school was closer to home, but ultimately he wants to go where he will be the most comfortable.

"I am looking for a school where I can get on the field right away. I want to go somewhere that they have a good defense and an overall good team.

"I would like to stay closer to home, but I really don't have a problem with it either way. I want to go somewhere I will be comfortable."
