Klachko elated over expansion news

For Husker commit Ryan Klachko , the four star offensive guard from Springfield (IL), the news of Nebraska to the Big 10 wasn't shocking. After all he lives in the middle of Big 10 country, and expansion is all the locals have been talking about lately. But in this update Ryan give us his perspective on the move, and how it influences his decision to play for Nebraska.

So have you heard the big news?

"How could I not have", laughed Klachko. "I love it, I think it's a great move. When I heard it was for real I almost couldn't believe it. There has been rumors going around here in town, but I didn't know what to think.

"It's even been all over the papers here the last few weeks. But you know at that time it just looked like a rumor because everybody with the Big 10 was denying it. But now that it's out there and gone public, I'm just ecstatic about it. I called coach Watson the other day, and he couldn't say much, other than it looked like a good possibility.

"But now it's for real, and me and my whole family are just really happy about the news."

What are some of the positives in your mind?

"Most of the games will be right in my backyard, my parents and family will get to come see almost every game. The Illinois campus is only an hour away from my house, and that's just one of them. Ohio State is close by, Indiana is extremely close, and Purdue is like four hour drive. Most of them are all within a five or six hour drive. All the games will be on television too."

Have people in your community said anything to you about it, since most know you are already committed to Nebraska. And what do your parents think about the switch?

"Some people have asked me if it will affect my commitment, like my commitment status with Nebraska. I told them it's the exact opposite, it's probably made it stronger, although I'd still be going to Nebraska if they moved to a conference in Canada.

"I'm really excited to be able to go play these Big 10 teams too. I'm already hearing things will be a lot better for Nebraska with them being on the Big 10 Network. I'm just happy about it, I know coach Osborne and coach Pelini know what they are doing. I can't wait to get over there and get this thing started.

"And my parents love the idea. They know the people at Nebraska have this thing under control, and are doing what is best for the program. This is for the best, or Nebraska wouldn't have done it."

What's your opinion on Nebraska's ability to recruit in the region? And you grew up watching the Big 10 programs, in your mind, how will Nebraska stack up?

"I don't think it will really affect Nebraska recruiting that much, I don't think it will hurt it at all. We already have guys committed from all over the country, and I don't see that changing. And Nebraska also has a big following here where I live in Illinois.

"There are a ton of Nebraska fans everywhere around here, I mean everyone loves Nebraska. The name Nebraska is just bigger than most, so it doesn't matter what conference they go to."

"And I've been watching Big 10 football all my life, and in my opinion, Nebraska will have no problem competing with those teams. There will be a couple teams that won't even be able to compete with us, but there will be others that will be tougher. There is no doubt in my mind though, Nebraska will be on top of the conference soon."
