The Huskers have made no bones about their desire to grab a second quarterback in the 2011 class and Nebraska has had their eyes on Starling after picking up a commitment from Jamal Turner from Arlington (Texas) Sam Houston.
There has been some rumbling that it seemed Starling was Notre Dame's to lose as of late. But, it's always key when Nebraska gets the last visit and has a plan pulled together. Starling didn't visit Nebraska this week thinking he would commit, but at the end of the day it was Nebraska where he belonged.
"I did commit," Starling told Big Red Report. "I didn't know that I was going to commit to Nebraska this weekend, but I just fell in love with it."
For Starling, the weekend was all about the people at Nebraska that he will be surrounded by. The Nebraska offensive coordinator, Shawn Watson, led in the recruiting of Starling and Starling came away the most impressed with Watson.
"After talking to all of the coaches I just realized that this was where I want to be. I really believe that Coach Watson is the best quarterback coach in the country. I got a chance to really talk to him about me and how he sees me."
Starling isn't done with baseball today though and had to run to pitch in a 4:30 game. He said that he would get back in touch with BigRedReport.com with more comments on his decision and some information on how his team did this weekend in Nebraska.
Starling is commitment #12 in the class of 2011 for Nebraska and the second quarterback in the class. Starling is planning on playing both football and baseball when he attends college at Nebraska.
