Stafford is ready

It's like there isn't an off-season anymore for football players. Daimion Stafford agrees, but he said that he never had an off-season anyway. He's always putting in the work to improve himself to get ready for the upcoming season. Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Chaffey JC is back at work getting ready for the upcoming season and Stafford is ready to go.

Practice just got over and Daimion Stafford finally gets some time off. It's a four day a week deal for him and his team mates at Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Chaffey JC.

"I just got in from practice," Stafford said. "It's an organized practice. On Mondays and Wednesday we have weights and on Tuesdays and Thursdays we have 100s.

"On Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:45 we have a little practice on those days. There's not really an off-season. I know that there isn't an off-season for me."

Stafford wanted to improve as a player as a whole. However, there is one area that he says that you just can't have enough of.

"I just wanted to work on everything really because I thought that would help me stay focused on the season that we have coming up. You can always improve on everything.

"If there was an area that I wanted to work on it a little bit it would have been my speed. My footwork is pretty good, honestly, but I always want to be faster."

Stafford committed fairly early to the Huskers and with good reason. Stafford wanted the recruiting attention to go away. He didn't want any distractions to deal with.

"Ever since I committed to Nebraska it was a done deal. I really haven't heard from anyone else. This is the way that I want it. I want to just concentrate on my season."

The Nebraska staff typically gets time off in the summer and through the month of July so there hasn't been a lot of communication lately with Nebraska. Stafford is wondering though when he will be able to take his official visit.

"I haven't spoken with anyone from Nebraska about an official visit date. I haven't spoken with the coaches all that much through the summer. We haven't discussed that at all.

"Of course I want to go to the Texas game, but we have a game that week and we play on Saturday. I couldn't do that. The Texas game is the week after our bye week. Our bye week is when Nebraska is away."

The results of the summer's work are there for Stafford is bigger than some of the linebackers at Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Chaffey JC. The coaches will move him around this fall and make offenses figure out where he is at.

"I am right at 6-foot-1 and 215-pounds. I got up to 217-pounds. I am bigger than a couple of our linebackers. I am in the nickel package as the nickel and I will get to blitz.

"They use me off of the edge in the nickel to blitz the quarterback a lot. I will be playing both free and strong safety as well. Our coaches really move me around. I will even be in the box sometimes."
