Huskers could get visit

The number of wide receivers that Nebraska will take in the 2011 class is likely down one after they added Stanley Jean-Baptiste from Fort Scott (Kans.) and that makes it increasingly important to get solid commitments. The Huskers are after this receiver from North Texas and although the Huskers are one of his eight offers he hasn't started to trim his list or set up visits yet.

The football season is back. Texas high school football opens up this Friday, but class has been going on now for a few days. Marquis Jackson from Fort Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights was excited about one thing starting and not really about the other.

"It's good," Jackson said. "I am looking forward to football starting, but school I am not really excited about that. I am excited about football."

The summer was productive for Jackson who wanted to improve as a receiver. There were a couple of areas in particular that he wanted to get better at before his senior year.

"I wanted to get better at route running and my ball skills; just attacking the ball. I think that I really improved over the summer."

The senior year is always about going out with a bang and the ultimate bang is getting that championship. Jackson also wants to get better and do what he can to help his team.

"I want to get better as a player, do what I can do as a player and a leader and also help my team win a championship."

Jackson is going to play wide receiver for sure this fall for Arlington Heights, but he expects a little later in the year that he will move over and play some defense as well.

"I am playing offense right now, but I will probably play some defense this year. I will play either safety or cornerback this year when I play."

Recruiting is there for Jackson, but he isn't giving it much thought. The only thing on his mind is the season that is in front of him and not the eight or possibly nine offers he's holding.

"I haven't been focusing on it at all because I have been concentrating on football. I have offers from Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas State, Baylor, Arkansas, UTEP and Houston.

"I am also really close to getting one from North Texas. I just got a letter from them and I can't remember if it said that I had an offer or I was really close to getting one."

Jackson is talking about taking some trips during the season. He knows about two schools that he would like to visit and he will use his trips to see out of state schools.

"I will take some trips during the season. I would like to visit Minnesota because they want me to come up there. I might try and go to Nebraska. It will be mostly out of state schools."

There are some things that Jackson is looking for when it comes to picking out a school. The education side is big to Jackson, but he also wants to get a feel for the player-coach relationship.

"I am looking for a good education, getting my degree and the coaching staff. I want to see how they interact with the coaches. I don't want to say play around, but I want to see if they have fun with the players."

Jackson caught Nebraska on television last year and noted that Nebraska ran the ball a lot and had a good defense. He knows that they want to be more effective throwing the ball and thinks that he could help with that.

"I can't remember the coach that's recruiting me from Nebraska. It might be Tim Beck. I watched them on TV last year and they liked to run the ball and they had a good defense.

"I think that they want to throw the ball some more to the wide receiver position and I think that I can help open things up for them on offense."
