Nevada Picked to Finish 4th in West Division

The Mountain West Conference football media days started today. Nevada was picked to finish fourth in the MWC West division behind Fresno State, San Diego State and conference newcomer San Jose State.

It's not an all too surprising pick given the Wolf Pack's tough finish last season, the coaching change and a brutal road conference schedule with trips to Boise State, Fresno State and San Diego State.

Boise State and Fresno State were picked to finish first in their respective Mountain and West divisions, both garnering the vast majority of first-place votes.

Former WAC conference mates Utah State and San Jose State, both making their debuts in the Mountain West Conference, were picked to finish 2nd and 3rd in the respective divisions. Last season, Nevada was the newcomer picked to finish near the top of the conference, it will be interesting to see how well the Aggies and Spartans adjust to the tougher competition in the MWC and how they handle that transition while breaking in new coaching staffs. Utah State and San Jose State both finished ranked in the top 25 at the end of last season, but both are starting over with brand new coaching staffs, as is Nevada.

Junior Wolf Pack defensive end Brock Hekking was the lone Nevada player selected to the pre-season all-conference team. Fresno State QB Derek Carr was selected preseason offensive player of the year and Fresno DB Derron Smith was selected preseason defensive player of the year.
