Catching Up with the Future Pack - Week 11

High school football playoffs are in full swing, a few teams with Nevada commits advanced, a few were eliminated, a few were on byes. After the jump we catch up with how each of Nevada's current verbal football commits are doing as the 2013 season winds down.

Drew Celis - WR - Marin Catholic HS - Kentfield, CA
Marin Catholic was on a bye week as they prepare for the first round of the CIF North Coast Section Playoffs against 9-2 Eureka. Eureka posted a 29-12 win over 9-2 Hercules in their opening playoff game. Drew Celis took the opportunity to travel up to Reno to take in the San Jose State at Nevada game and was briefly featured by ESPN during the telecast of the game.

Wyatt Demps - WR, S - Pleasant Grove HS - Elk Grove, CA
Seventh seeded Pleasant Grove won it's first game in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs 48-12 over 7-4 Modesto. Wyatt Demps returned a punt 73 yards and also caught 2 touchdown passes, one for 68 yards. Demps, who plays both ways, has also garnered praise as a ball hawking safety. Pleasant Grove takes on second seeded, 10-1, Stagg this coming weekend.

Hunter Fralick - QB - Spanish Springs HS - Reno, NV
Spanish Springs was eliminated from the Northern Nevada playoffs by Carson last week. Fralick ended his senior season at Spanish Springs with 2,489 yards passing, 14 touchdowns and 5 interceptions as well as 1,222 yards rushing with 19 rushing touchdowns.

Victor Gonzalez - WR - Norte Vista HS - Riverside, CA
Norte Vista won the first game of their 2013 playoff campaign 38-16 over 6-5 Silverado of Victorville, CA. Gonzalez has caught 41 passes for 804 yards and five touchdowns this season. Norte Vista will take on 10-1 Oak Hills in the 2nd round of the CIF Southern Section Playoffs.

Jacob Lacaden - OLB - St. Louis School - Honolulu, HI
St. Louis' season ended 10/19 with a playoff loss to Kamehameha. The Crusaders finished 6-3 and ranked 4th in the state of Hawai'i.

Kalei Meyer - DT - Kamehameha HS - Honolulu, HI
Kamehameha was eliminated from the playoffs on 10/25 by top ranked Punahou. The Warriors finished the season 9-2 with their only 2 losses coming against Punahou.

Matt Moen - TE - Steele HS - Cibolo, TX
Steele won their first playoff game 52-6 over Clark and will face undefeated Reagan of San Antonio in the next round.

Elijah Moody - DB - Long Beach Poly - Long Beach, CA
Long Beach Poly won a thriller over Orange Lutheran, scoring on a touchdown pass with 1:43 remaining to go ahead 18-16. Next up for the Jackrabbits is 8-3 St. Bonaventure of Ventura, CA.

Ahki Muhammad - WR/RB - James Logan HS - Union City, CA
5th seeded Logan squeaked out a win over 12th seeded Liberty, 14-7. The Colts needed a goal line stand late in the 4th quarter to preserve the win. Muhammad rushed for 106 yards on 19 carries, a touchdown and returned the opening kickoff of the 2nd half 84 yards for the go ahead touchdown. He also had 2 receptions for 14 yards. Next up for Logan is Deer Valley of Antioch, CA.

Kevin Nutt - RB, CB - Edison HS - Fresno, CA
Edison had a bye week leading up to the first round of the CIF Central Section Playoffs. The 4th seeded Tigers will take on 8-3 5th seeded Central who were 36-0 winners over Buchanan in the first round of the playoffs. In a recent article on Fresno area recruiting, Nutt's coach, Matt Johnson, described Kevin as a player who "can play corner, safety, slot and running back. He's truly a breakaway threat at any time because of his tremendous speed. Also, he has the work ethic and is a real student of his physical conditioning, football and academics." More here.

Cliff Porter - DE, OL - Hug HS - Reno, NV
Hug High closed out a winless 2013 with a 47-0 rout at the hands of rival North Valleys.

Asauni Rufus - DB - Bakersfield HS - Bakersfield, CA
#1 seeded Bakersfield had a bye week but will take on 8th seeded Clovis West, winners of their first round game 44-12 over Stockdale. Clovis West is a team that is all about power and size, where as Bakersfield has speed all across the board.

Brandon Scott - TE - Yucaipa HS - Yucaipa, CA
Yucaipa lost in the opening round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs 53-33 to 7-4 Charter Oak. Brandon Scott nearly single handedly won the game for the Thunderbirds with 16 catches for 215 yards and 5 touchdowns. Sadly, Scott's phenomenal game wasn't enough to overcome a 21 point first quarter deficit. Scott finished his senior season with 64 catches for 1,260 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Duran Workman - S - Saddleback College - Charlston, WV
Saddleback closed out its regular season with a 30-6 loss to league foe Golden West. Workman did not play in the game for the Gauchos. Saddleback's final game of the 2013 season will be against 7-3 Citrus in the Beach Bowl.

Blake Wright - RB - Edison HS - Fresno, CA
Edison had a bye week leading up to the first round of the CIF Central Section Playoffs. The 4th seeded Tigers will take on 8-3 5th seeded Central who were 36-0 winners over Buchanan in the first round of the playoffs. In a recent article on Fresno area recruiting, Wright's coach, Matt Johnson, described Blake as a player with "tremendous balance and hip core strength. You very rarely see him go down with a solo tackle. He has vision, patience and a fifth gear that coaches really like to see." More here.
