April Basketball Recruiting Update
Nevada basketball is seeking to fill out its 2014 roster and fill the void left by Cole Huff's departure and Chris Brown's medical disqualification. Two players are already signed for the Fall 2014 class and it's believed the staff is looking to fill 3 more scholarships.
SG Eric Cooper and PF Kaileb Rodriguez signed back in the early signing period in the Fall of 2013. Cooper is currently prepping at the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. Rodriguez is spending his transfer year at Sheridan Community College in Sheridan, WY where he averaged 4.9 points per game and 3.9 redbounds per game on a team that finished 27-6.
A.J. West was a spark that got Nevada off to a great start to conference play but he faded down the stretch as he hit the wall or teams just got better scouting reports on him. West could very well have a breakout senior campaign but Nevada is still looking for players to compete in the post.
C/F Elijah Foster, 6-8 240lb
Nevada is in the final 4 for Rainier Beach High School (Seattle, WA) power forward Elijah Foster. The 6-8 240 senior is still growing and has Seattle, Boise St., South Carolina and Nevada as his likely choices with no clear favorite. Foster moves well and has great size and strength with a developing low post game. Rainier Beach is consider one of the top prep programs in the country and absolutely demolished Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) earlier in the year. Foster has said that he will make his decision in the next few weeks, he would be a huge pick up for David Carter if he is able to get him.
Highlights from Rainier Beach's quarterfinal win over Shadle Park. Foster is #12 in white with orange shoes and finished with 16 points in the game.
F Zach Lee, 6-7 185lb
Another name bubbling up on the radar is 6-7 combo forward Zach Lee of Albuquerque NM. Currently prepping at Elev8 Academy post-graduate academy in Delray Beach, FL. Lee is described as a West coast sleeper who is "crazy athletic..." and "will set screens and roll off and catch lobs. Has decent 15 foot jump shot and will crack boards hard. Great defender likes to rise up and block shots."
F Merrill Holden, 6-8 215lb
The final big man the staff is looking at is Merril Holden of Pratt Community College in Pratt, KS. The staff offered him after seeing him at the Dallas Showcase this past weekend. Holden is a bouncy 6-8 215lb forward with great athleticism who can defend multiple post positions. He would have 3 years to play 3.
Holden's highlights from high school can be found here.
SG Andris Misters, 6-5 200lb
The last piece of the puzzle for the Wolf Pack is shooting guard Andris Misters 6-5 200lbs out of Western Texas College, former home of the now medically disqualified Chris Brown. Misters is a big wing with excellent range, slashing ability and nice court vision.
