Introducing Alec Simpson

At 6’3” 205lbs, 3 Star MLB Alec Simpson amassed 115 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 4 sacks and one interception his junior year.  He was All City Division first team and All League first team.  Simpson currently has about fourteen teams eyeing him including the Wolf Pack who are, as of now, his only scholarship offer.

All of the schools recruiting Simpson believe he can play at both inside and outside linebacker.  Simpson doesn’t appear to have any clear favorites and plans on getting a good feel for the recruiting process.

Simpson is a sure tackler who rarely loses an opposing ball carrier… Something Nevada has sorely needed in its backfield these past few seasons.  He shows great patience and his eyes follow the ball.  Simpson is a smart player who doesn’t get trapped by blockers and he has the athleticism to break away from them and still make the tackle.

The schools showing the most interest in Simpson at the moment are Washington State, BYU, Utah State, Boise State, Penn State, Wisconsin (as of recently) and Oregon. He’s been hearing from most of the schools for about a year but Nevada, his only current offer, has been recruiting since his sophomore season.

Simpson took an unofficial visit to Nevada the weekend of the San Diego State game and came away impressed. “It was so fun man! Amazing game! The whole city of Reno revolves around the university. I love it.”

It’s still early in the recruiting process and Simpson said he plans to take some more visits with BYU, Boise State and Washington State on his list.

When asked to describe his game, Simpson said he’s “Very physical, very fast paced with lots of energy and a student of the game.”

“I’m looking for a school with my preferred major which is journalism and broadcasting and with a great campus life as well. I’m looking for a school with a great stadium atmosphere as well.“

If Nevada can land Simpson it will pick up a recruit that will help build upon and anchor down the growing Nevada backfield.  Simpson, alongside 2015 linebacker and current Nevada verbal commitment, Gabe Sewell, would make for a great pair of linebackers for the pack.
