Mountain West Power Rankings

Week 1 of the Mountain West football season is in the books. Here is where I think the teams are as of right now. This is not where I think they will finish the season. When you play 10 FCS teams, it’s hard to judge how good or bad a team is. We will know more after this week.

Power Rankings after Week 1

Mountain Division:

Boise State – Only mountain division team to beat an FBS team, so they get the top spot.

New Mexico – Only MWC team to pitch a shutout, that’s gotta count for something…right?

Air Force – Easily dispatched Morgan State

Colorado State – Handled an overmatched Savannah State.

Utah State – Needed a punt return for a touchdown to beat Southern Utah University. Offense only managed to score 3 points.

Wyoming – Lost at home to North Dakota. No, not North Dakota State, the 4 time defending FCS champion…the other one. And lost by double digits.

Hawaii – Only West Division team to beat an FBS team, so like Boise they get the top spot for now.

San Jose State – Beat a top ten team. A top ten FCS team, so their FCS win was more “impressive” than the rest.

San Diego State – Beat crosstown FCS team, San Diego.

Nevada – Game wasn’t nearly as close as the final score.

Fresno State – Beat Abilene Christian but questions remain at the Quarterback position.

UNLV – Lost to NIU but was more competitive than expected.
