OK! Nice win streak entering the WAC. NMSU is the best in the league, but there are at least three teams that will test the Aggies---GCU, Bakersfield and UVU.
The Aggies are playing with passion and intensity. The coaching staff has done an excellent job of keeping the team focused. The players seem to know their roles.
Aggies are looking good, but moving forward, there are several things that are of concern to me:
- With the injury to N'Dir the Aggies lost a legit outside shooter. Baker and Huggins are prolific shooters, but the Aggies need that 3rd shooter. Haley could be that guy, but right now he's doing the other things well. Garza is another option. Ellis isn't ready for prime time. Taylor has hit some dramatic treys, but that's not his game. If Baker is cold and Huggins, who is foul prone, gets in foul trouble, NMSU's offense could suffer.
- Interior defense and rebounding against big teams is a concern, although Wilkins has awoken and seems to be playing with more intensity (however, zero rebounds against UTEP). Chuha has emerged as a real threat and 6-5 Jemerrio Jones loves to tangle inside. The injured Marlon Jones was to be a factor inside. Weir can always go to Bhullar.
- The Aggies like to push the ball and that increases the chance of turnovers, but NMSU needs to cut down on "dumb" turnovers.
