Boston called the return to the NCAA tournament "a first step" toward the goal he and Theus talked about in Atlanta two years ago. "We talked about winning a national championship, not about getting into the NCAA tournament," Boston said.
Had an engagement tonight but I was checking the score and NNMC was in the game most of the way. Our defense is playing horrible. Layup after layup at Utah Valley and now allowing a 4-20 NAIA team to score 75 points. Can someone please tell me what happened?
I was there, scrappy team, you gotta give them some credit. Our guys weren't running much of the offense. Seemed they were just relying on pure athletic ability to beat the Northern. We didn't seem to be in rhythm and maybe a bit tired and worn down. Regardless it was entertaining, we've got some studs. I think we can be very dangerous in March. If we can get a 13 seed or better we have a chance. I wouldn't want to play any of the top 10 -12 teams, but after I think we can beat anyone.
The entire team looked disinterested, even the coaching staff from an energy standpoint at times. It is what it is. Moving on.
As far as for NNM, I don't see how they only have 4 wins. They seem to have some decent players and some size. I expected a bunch of HS looking ball players, and while there were a few, the still had a couple that looked like they belonged at a lower level D1 school.
Jermaine Haley continues to impress. 6 of 10 from the field, 4 of 4 from the charity stripe, 16 points (career high), 5 rebounds, 5 assists.
He looks legit out there. Every once in a while you see a player who physically looks like he belongs at the next level, and Haley has that look. He looks tentative still, but as soon as he figures out how to be more assertive he's going to be a star.

NMSU does not have tremendous frontline depth and can't afford to get the bigs in foul trouble. I guess Tanveer is not an option for Weir. I wonder if Bollo is going to be next year. He seems more athletic. We should also have Marlon Jones back as well.
Tanveer cannot compete is Weir's system. He's just too slow. If he wants to continue to play, he really should transfer as I don't see a role for him. Bollo is a mountain of a man, but can he run the court? I've seen very little of Marlon Jones, but I'm thinking he can play Paul Ball.
Earlier in the season, I thought John Wilkins would be one the of players who wouldn't return next season. However, although he is not a dominating rebounder, he has developed a niche within the offense and has proven to be our best low post defender. He has now made himself a key component to our success.
