From Weir's post-game press conference last night: “We’ve got 48 hours to prepare for Grand Canyon at this point and have a much better effort than what happened tonight. Tonight was pretty embarrassing on a lot of levels. We have to fix this immediately.”
Remember what happened the last time the Aggies lost? Weir lit a fire under the team and they responded with a 20 game win-streak. Will they respond with the same urgency tomorrow, or will they beat themselves up over it? The bigs know they dropped the ball last night but as another poster mentioned, we match up much better with GCU. Huggins and Baker need to drive to the hoop and physically see the ball go through the net before they start getting trigger-happy on 3s, IMO. And we need a hell of an effort from J. Jones during this final stretch. He's kind of faded between the lines the last few weeks.
Our Bigs didn't do too bad offensively shooting 9-18 with 26 rebounds. Defensively they didn't do as well allowing the Bakersfield inside game to shoot 15-30 with 19 rebounds. It was a team loss all the way around but our guard play was atrocious. We are usually a good assist team but only had 6 compared to 13 turnovers and that's on both the inside and outside game.
Boston called the return to the NCAA tournament "a first step" toward the goal he and Theus talked about in Atlanta two years ago. "We talked about winning a national championship, not about getting into the NCAA tournament," Boston said.
