Jack Nixon, the Voice of the Aggies. has seen more Aggie games than anyone else. Period. He graciously agreed to another Q & A session.
Q1 – Do you ever get tired of covering a NCAA Basketball Tournament game?
No, shoot me when I do. The Conference tournament post victory mood is surreal though. Everyone is happy, every Aggie fan is your friend, there is no end to the joy.
Q2 – Looking back at the 2016-17 basketball season, what games were the most exciting for you to broadcast?
@Arizona State, @Colo State, @ Utah Valley
Q3 – You’ve been broadcasting for a long time. Have you ever been part of a 20-game win streak?
Neil McCarthy had a couple, Marvin and Coach Henson had some nice ones, this year’s stretched out over non and conference games which was a little different along with the length
Q4 - Despite some injury setbacks, Paul Weir seemed to push all the right buttons this season. What makes him tick?
He is a very intelligent, intense guy, he really tries to see a bigger picture for his program. His staff is very involved, he believes in taking lots of input, but he has no problem making a decision.
Q5 – The WAC appears to be getting better. Do you agree with that statement?
Yes, I think Utah Valley Is the team that is rising the fastest
Q6 – Since you’re around the team all the time, including traveling with them, you see a side of the players rarely seen by fans. What can you share about a player or two that fans might find interesting?
They are polite and friendly to me. There is a FT shooting contest at the end of each practice bigs vs Guards. First to ten in a row wins. Losers have to do pushups.
Q7 – What do you think about the direction of the program? How do you think the Aggies will do next season?
I can see more of the same. Paul has definite ideas about what he wants and how he can get there. I see him learning from this year and refining things.
