UTEP and UNM recently signed a home-and-home football contract for 2021 and 2022.
One UNM fan said he was not thrilled with this, but I think it's great for the region. I am hopeful that NMSU football still will be viable and that there will be a true champion crowned of the mythical "Rio Grande Championship".
UTEP and UNM can take their digs against NMSU, but the Aggie rivalry is big business for their respective programs.
The two largest home crowds in UNM history were against the Aggies----2005 with 44,760; 2003 with 44,075, and 4th largest crowd was in 2007 with 41,003. The Lobos 3rd largest home crowd was in 2001 vs. UTEP with 41,771 in attendance.
Meanwhile, among UTEP top ten home crowds, NMSU is in three of them, all with 50,000+ fans.
