It would be a nice intermediate step in pay coaching wise. It would still keep him (Alma and Theodore) close to his extended family but it wouldn't endear him with Aggie fans if he took the Lobo job. There are bigger fish in the sea in coming years. Taking the Lobo jobs would be seen as an act of traitor-ism to the LC community. Lou Henson (his mentor) would never make "this" move. Just sayin'.
Yes, I'd like to think that loyalty would mean something, but again, the pay difference is substantial. And despite all the crappola there, you can be successful at UNM.....it's not a coaching graveyard.
So, what does this say to his players? The players who were pulled for NMSU to make Weir there head coach after Menzies left? UNM has had our number for the past decade, Weir was suppose to remedy that situation not work against his alma mater. I'm sorry that would be a big slap in the face if he takes the Lobo job. It's not like other high paying jobs won't be coming around in the near future; ones which don't directly effect NMSU.
I still hold no ill will unless Weir takes the Lobo job. However, if he remains here, this is not a good thing for his recruiting when NLI day is just two days away. This tells prospective recruits to look elsewhere because Weir might not be around here long. If Weir wants to take another job at least have the decency to do it (shop his name around) right after the season it over so Moccia has ample time for a coaching search and not go to a program in the eleventh hour that is not working in complete opposition to NMSU's prosperity.
