Mario sounds bitter but many people in this community, (business and ex mega supporters), do not like Mario Moccia. Many feel like he has cut them off. I don't know anymore. Being an NMSU fan is tough.
I have been hard on Mario myself. But maybe he is being handicapped by those above him to make the best moves for athletics. It is a tough role to be in. I don't envy him most days. He was respectful toward Weir and UNM....but I know this must have him boiling. Does anyone have a link to the audio from the interview?
Siembieda claims that because he has called NMSU games, he is somehow a neutral party. I remember when he had to call the UNM and NMSU football game and he was giving no respect to NMSU at the end of the game. He basically said they were due to win because you can't win every game. The guy is so blatantly biased and it shows even worse when he is called out on it. He was practically drooling over Weir while he was in the studio, yet whenever he interviewed him with NMSU is was backhanded compliment after backhanded compliment.
Moccia needs to stop whining about lack of support and get the people that do support to network out and get people to the games, donate, etc. He could involve college students a lot more as well. I will say anytime I email him he responds right away and always gives good response. His job is hard but that's the job. Be positive and move forward
It's up on 610 the sports animals website. Fun Game: Drink every time Mario mentions something about the budget.
The budget situation at NMSU is real AND drastic. To say that a lot of things are hanging by a thread would not be an understatement. Honestly, as sports fans of NMSU, we sometimes lose sight of how bad the situation is because for the most part, most of our teams are extremely competitive given the resources. We have truly done much, much more with much, much, less. In my opinion, Moccia is doing a hell of a job.
