I say give the job to a young super star recruiter that will get wins on talent alone. Put a $1 million buyout in his contract incase turns out to be a great coach as well. Take it or leave it.
As for miller, I would love nothing better than for him to get the job then kick Weir's rest twice next year. Miller is also a UNM favorite, so we would get them with their own guy. Talk about a revolt up north!!!!
And if we keep averaging 5000 people for games including vs. Utep and UNM that is all we are going to get if they are successful, one and dones. If Las Cruces can't get 8000-9000 a game like in $hitty Logan Utah for there team, we will never have the money to upgrade anything.
Why do we want another young guy who will pimp out the university to get the next pay day? A million dollar pay out to a P5 school is chump change. We need someone who will be here for the long haul.
We need to wrap our heads around that idea that our school, as well as most others in Div I (including UNM) are stepping stones. Honestly, if we have a driven young assistant on staff at all times, maybe that's where we go every 2 years so that we maintain some continuity. The $1 million buyout is to deter other mid majors like UNM, not the P5 schools. UNM hired Weir because he was relatively affordable, including his buy out. I'm not sure that they would have paid a $1 million.
