It's too bad that some take this achievement for granted, or that it is tainted because the WAC is still a work in progress. I think the attitude that NMSU is supposed to win everything every year is unfair. Many fans, however, realize that if the conference is to improve, other programs need to move up. And while I want NMSU to win everything, every year, that's not realistic. Give credit to the players, coaches, administrators and support staff for their contributions.
NMSU competes in 15 of the 19 sports that make up the Commissioner's Cup. Our closest competitors are usually Seattle and UMKC. Seattle fields teams in all 19 sports, UMKC in 16. So, NMSU must win or be near the top in most sports to claim the Cup...not that easy even though the WAC is not a powerhouse conference. It's a very good accomplishment, and as KK said, it's grounds for congratulations all around -- especially in light of the very nice APR scores NMSU registered recently.
