When Utah went to the PAC10-12, BYU was not going to let it's metro rival get the upper hand. Knowing they would not move up the food chain in the falling Mountain West Conference, BYU opted to go indy. The move hasn't hurt them, and they continue to be a powerful program, but according to this article, it hasn't helped them move up the food chain.
Honestly, I'm not a fan of this deal. I know we don't have much bargaining power but if we play a "top tier" school then we need to get more money that $700k. Yes, they are independent and it's nice having Indy vs Indy but other than that I don't see the value of this game. Is it on ESPN? Is it opening the door for a 2 vs 1 series with good money? ...
It's a good deal. It doesn't count as a P-5 game and we get a big pay day. Let's be honest BYU is good but they are no Alabama. I'm sure we'll play two 7 figure P-5 games so the money from BYU just adds to what we need.
This is awesome. Great pick up for Mario and Martin. BYU is a winning program, but not the type that will give us a beatdown like Alabama or Florida. If we continue to get better, then this will be a good test for us to see how much we progressed. SEC teams are not good tests. They are paychecks, pure and simple. Good job MM. Keep it up. 2018 schedule should be just about done. Can someone verify who we have booked for 2019?
