In another post on this subject I stated that while in my wildest dreams I never would have seen an Aggie basketball coach defect to NuM, it of course happened, leading me to believe it could happen again.
NuM has an interim president, an interim AD (not formally named) and it appears the Susana Martinez-appointed regents are running the show for right now. It will be a while before NuM selects a new president, and logical thing to do is to wait until that person comes on board, but the "flagship" school isn't logical.
As for their next AD....
Mario is clean, has good credentials and a NuM connection, but I think the Loobs desire a higher-powered person with a strong football background.
I think he is gone. We all know unm really want to be AGGIES!!!! No other reason why they poach our administrators. They deep down inside envy us.
Boston called the return to the NCAA tournament "a first step" toward the goal he and Theus talked about in Atlanta two years ago. "We talked about winning a national championship, not about getting into the NCAA tournament," Boston said.
If he does take the job maybe he can fire that sack of shit head coach they hired. I suppose it wouldn't be much different than what Wier did although Moccia did get his degree there and spent quite a bit of time in their athletics department. It would be a little more understandable. I hope he doesn't go but it would be a little more forgivable.
Moccia leaving for UNM would be a disaster for NMSU sports. I know Moccia has his critics but he has kept NMSU above water despite the mess in paying back the athletic department loan. If Mario was asked about the job by UNM I guess the big question is how does he feel about Weir. I know in the press on Weir leaving he wished him well and understood why he had to leave but personally may have been upset about his decision. I am sure UNM is going to get a lot of inquiries about the job so maybe we may not have to worry. But if I was President Carruthers I would talk with Mario and see where he stands and also start getting a list of possible replacements just in case.
How much is Mario paid? If he was paid say 400k at UNM that would not be near the difference that Judas had at a 400k difference. Money can make people do crazy things. I would think 100k would not be compelling enough but who knows.
This reminds me of the battle between Nevada and UNLV back in the 80's. Nevada got tired of UNLV being in the national limelight. UNLV was trying to make Nevada then Nevada-Reno irrelevant. Nevada started a media campaign pointing out that they were the first college in that state and UNLV was a Jonny come lately. they even dropped the hyphen Reno from their name. It got really ugly at times as they stole coaches and recruits from each other. There were fights at games between fans and players.
