It stands to reason. Western Kentucky wound up getting Chris Duarte; who was rumored to be joining the Aggie this coming season before Weir's ambitions pulled the rug out from under Aggie basketball program and subsequently unraveled his highly regarded NMSU recruiting class. Western Kentucky also had to work to out recruit NMSU for the services of South Plain JC Jordan Brangers; who originally committed to Texas Tech but changed his mind just before NLI day to sign with the Hilltoppers. Hsu has strong recruiting connections in JC ball and also with high school players coming out of the Dominican Republic. I suspect by hiring Marc Hsu, Western Kentucky wants the inside track to signing LJ Figueroa once he completes his one season at Odessa JC. I hope it happens. Hsu was a big reason for Weir's recruiting success and for Rod Barnes at Cal State Bakersfield Barnes prior. Hsu helped Weir get Jachai Simmons away from NMSU and sign Chris McNeal; another JC player NMSU was highly recruiting under the previous staff. If Weir loses Hsu, it will hamper his rebuilding project up north. Already, Lobo fans are licking their chops at the prospects of getting LJ Figueroa in Weir's next recruiting class. This would definitely put a monkey wrench in those plans.
Good for Hsu. One way or another, officially or unofficially, he is going to end up with a fat raise.
WKU is putting together a scary good class and will probably dominate conference USA. They are also in the hotbed of college basketball (Kentucky, Louisville) and Hsu would be silly to forego the publicity WKU is likely going to receive the next couple of years. UNM is a mid pack team again this year and a tournament berth is very unlikely.
