Hey everyone, I just graduated from Washington State University and moved down to Cruces for grad school a couple of days ago. I am completely new to the area, and it still feels like a completely new world to me. I like it so far, though it's a lot to take in and the heat is kicking my butt. I'm getting pretty excited with football coming up though, too.
Under Leach, WSU finally looks to be coming out of a pretty rough decade (with an especially rough past five years still fresh in mind), so I'm pretty excited about that. What can I expect out of the Aggies? What should I be watching for? Who are the standout players and who are guys to keep an eye on for the future? What kind of rivalry does NMSU have with UTEP and UNM? Any gameday traditions? How is AMS? Haha anything else to know? Also, is basketball discussed here? I watched the tournament game last year. Also, any suggestions on things to do/places to see in and around Cruces? And where would I be able to go to watch my Cougs when they're on the Pac-12 network?
I'm looking forward to football games here. WSU might have been a Pac-12 school, but gamedays still had a pretty intimate atmosphere (Pullman is about an hour and a half from the nearest town of consequence, and Martin only holds about 34,000). A lot of diehards though, and a lot of good memories, even when good football was sometimes hard to come by. The little bit I've seen out of NMSU seems to suggest that there's some similarities in the atmosphere here too.
