Forward Jeff Jones Joins the Aggie Basketball Team

New Mexico State men's head basketball coach Lou Henson announced, Thursday, April 17th, the signing of Jeff Jones for the upcoming 2003-04 basketball season. Jones will both strengthen and add depth to the post position for the Aggies after the departure of center Chris Jackson.

Jones is a 6-8, 220 pound forward from San Ramone, Calif. He averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game for San Jose City College this past season, while shooting 55 percent from the field and averaging two blocks a contest. As a freshman, Jones ranked second on the team in both points and rebounds, averaging eight points and eight rebounds a game, while shooting an outstanding 52% from the field.

Jeff has been well coached and he understands the game of basketball," Henson said. " He is a good player and we think he will come in and really help us. Jeff is a great athlete and shoots the ball well. He comes from an outstanding family and we think he will add a great deal to our basketball team."

"Jeff can do a lot of different things. He is a versatile player that can go inside and hit the outside jumper," head assistant coach Tony Stubblefield said. "Jeff is a player that works extremely hard and should really help us on the defensive end."
