Aggies And Mean Green Battle For League Title & New Orleans Bowl Bid
The only undefeated teams in the Sun Belt Conference will get together Saturday afternoon in Denton, Texas and will battle for the invitation to the New Orleans Bowl on December 17.
New Mexico State and North Texas have a good rivalry going and it should only get better with this weekend's game.
Last year North Texas beat the Aggies with a touchdown in the final minute. That win was key to the Mean Green winning last year's Sun Belt crown and advancing to the New Orleans Bowl.
Now the Aggies will try and return the favor. Last year North Texas broke its bowl drought which dated back to the 1959 Sun Bowl. This year the Aggies are trying to break their bowl drought which dates back to the 1960 Sun Bowl.
New Mexico State has won 8 of its 10 Sun Belt Conference games in the 2-year history of the league and has won 5 in a row. North Texas has won 9 of its 10 Sun Belt Conference games including 9 straight.
The Aggies have already avenged 1 of their 2 league defeats from a year ago with a win over Middle Tennessee. North Texas avenged its only conference loss from a year ago with a win over UL Monroe.
