Late last week the Twitter sphere was buzzing about 6-7 210lb small forward Anthony January of Taft HS (Woodland Hills, CA) was taking care of business in the classroom and was planning a trip in a couple of weeks to visit the University of New Mexico.
TheRedMenace.com gave a call to January and we were able to speak with Anthony January Sr. about this latest tweet and the current situation regarding his son's current recruiting situation. Anthony January in various reports is shown to have offers from New Mexico, UNLV, and Memphis with UCLA, Oregon, UTEP, and San Diego State also showing big interest in landing him, but without the test scores there hasn't been any official visit.
"We are just waiting for Anthony to take his test (standardized test)," said January. "He cannot take any visits until he takes his test which should be happening the next couple of weeks."
As far as the second part of the tweet about visiting New Mexico, "We haven't sat down yet and started saying we're going to go visit here, here, and here," says January Sr. "We are looking to start that process in April once he has taken his test, we will look at where Anthony is interested in visiting and where he might like to go to school."
January Sr. did say however, "He is very
interested in New
Mexico and that it is one of the places that they intend to visit.
Jr.) is looking at the schools out there," said January Sr. "There
is a lot of
interest in New Mexico, and it is one of the first schools we are
going to take
a look at."
Why New Mexico? "Anthony is a faced paced sort of player, he is looking for a team that runs a lot of up tempo," says January Sr. "His interest in New Mexico is because they run that style of play."
