The Aztecs scored the game winner at the 23rd minute off a corner kick. SDSU's Carli Johnson was able to get a head on a corner as UNM's goalkeeper Kelli Cornell came out to try and knock the ball away. The ball bounded up, and UNM's Brooke Ellison was able to head it away from the net, but Aztec Kelsey Booth out-jumped another UNM defender and headed it into the open net.
San Diego State (16-6) added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute when Megan Jurado fired off a shot from the left side of the pitch. Cornell was able to make the save, but the rebound bounced to Sarah Halverson, who put her shot past Cornell.
San Diego State outshot New Mexico, 16-6, and held an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. The Aztecs also earned more corner kicks (4-1) than the Lobos.
SDSU's Johnson was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
New Mexico's Cornell, Lauren Irwin and Rachel Montoya were named to the all-tournament team along with SDSU's Johnson, Rachel Boaz, Kelsey Booth and Megan Jurado. Also on the all-tournament squad was, Nevada's Dana Moreno and Chelsea Fricke, and UNLV's Caitlin Allen and Jenn Wolfe.
