Lobos Add a Big Man

Craig Neal said last week that UNM was going out on the recruiting trail to fill their last open scholarship. It didn't take long as Asst. Chris Harriman was instrumental in picking up Serbian Nikola Scekic

Last week Lobo Head Coach Craig Neal said that UNM was going to go hard on the recruiting trail to fill their final open scholarship... It only took a couple of days as UNM signs Serbian national Nikola Scekic of MMG Academy to complete the recruiting season... 7 foot Scekic per reports had originally committed to Georgetown.

Here is the official release from UNM

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Head coach Craig Neal and the University of New Mexico men’s basketball program have received a commitment from Nikola Scekic for the 2015 recruiting class. The 7-foot, 245-pound center from Serbia will join the Lobos as a freshman from the MMG Academy in Florida.

“We are really excited to add Nikola to our roster, said head coach Craig Neal. “It’s very hard to get a player of his caliber this late in the year. He had some professional offers to play in Europe but decided to become a Lobo instead. Coach Huss stayed on top of things during the recruiting process, and Coach Harriman assisted as well. He’s got a good body for a freshman to play in the post. Nikola can also step out and shoot the ball with good range while being a great passer for a big man.”

Scekic joins the freshmen trio of Jordan Hunter, Dane Kuiper and Anthony Mathis in rounding out New Mexico’s 2015 recruiting class.
