The University of New Mexico Women's Basketball team is gearing up for once again a great year for Women's Basketball in the 505!!! Last season was a great season under Head Coach Don Flanagan (217-94 at UNM for10 years), and he finally got the coach of the year in the MWC (it should have been given to him a long time ago in my eyes). The team went an astounding 26-5 and a tie for the MWC regular season championship. They also went up to Denver and took the MWC Tournament Championship as well. There season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a loss to Purdue. Not to dwell on the negative lets move on and meet this year's team.

The Lobo Women's Team is led by 3 great seniors Jana Francis, Abbie Letz and Judy Vogt and who can forget the MWC newcomer of the Year: Dionne Marsh. Even with the graduating seniors from last year (Moore, Arndt and Shetters) the team is shaping up to be a power in the MWC and all over the nation.

The lobos New Rosters looks like one that plenty of potential to be a great group of women that could make another run at the MWC championship!  Possible starters could be Katie Montgomery that will have to fill the huge shoes that by Manda Moore (one of the greatest lobo women basketball players ever). Dionne Marsh will look to have another great season inside and at the post for us; other possible starters are as follows:

Possible star watch is going to have to be Dionne Marsh she was one of the best inside players in the MWC. As a freshmen she averaged 13.0 per game, and she went to the free throw line more then any other lobo last year. She had the moves inside to get a foul and get to the line. Call me bold but I think she could be the MWC Player of The Year cause as a freshmen she was good she only can get better, lets all hope she does

We continue our outlook with a look at the 2005-2006 schedule. One think I do really like about Coach Flanagan is he is not afraid to play anyone in the country, this years schedule includes national power houses: Minnesota, Texas, Arizona State and Oklahoma. In the MWC they well have the all ways good Utah team and the new comer TCU which has had a good team in the past. Here is a link to the schedule http://golobos.collegesports.com/sports/w-baskbl/sched/nm-w-baskbl-sched.html
