Finally basketball season has started, with our women's basketball coming off there best season in school history, the team opened up the 2005-‘06 season against the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles from Tulsa, Oklahoma in the Women's Preseason NIT. This is 3rd time UNM has been invited to the Preseason WNIT, the last time UNM played in the WNIT they suffered a second loss in 2001.

The game stared off great for the Lobos as they stormed to a 12 to 0 lead before letting ORU crawl back in to the game. ORU went on a 10 to 2 run to get back in to the game. The Lobos looked like to different teams in those runs. It was nice to see a good start tonight because, in the first 2 games the Lobos started out slow and sloppy.
Both teams played a very physical game as elbows were flying everywhere and the refs were not calling any of the flagrant fouls while wasting their time calling the tiky-tack fouls. To but it in perceptive, halfway through the first half both teams were already in the double bonus.
Just like both exhibition games the Lobos made a late run in the first half to take a 9-point lead into the locker room.
The second half became even more physical than the first as even more elbows were flying and still no calls by the refs. About 2 minutes in to he half a Lobo player drove hard to the basket and she knocked down an ORU player and the coach for ORU came running on to the floor to about half court during play drawing a technical foul.
Later in the half Coach Flanagan finally reached a breaking point about a few no calls and he was T'ed up as well. After Flanagan received his technical the 8,467 Fans in the Pit became even louder. It was like there was a full house there. Katie Montgomery after the game said about the fans, "it felt like there were more, that what makes it fun. They're not use to it (ORU) no crowed is ever that loud that they have seen". The fans were big tonight I fell that when the Eagles got with in seven after the technical, Lobo fans got in to the game after sitting on there hands for the first.
Brandi Kimble is on an early season tear and once again looked good and showed she can be a great player, and Frosh. Angela Hartill had a strong showing with eight points and three rebounds. Katie had some nice words about Angela. "She played really very good, she came in stepped up huge on defense and offense, she is going to be a good player for us"
#44 Angela Hartill
The Lobos move onto a 2nd round game Sunday night vs. California as they finish the night with their fans right behind them to a 69-52 point victory.
As Coach Flanagan said tonight after the game about Sunday night's game and The Pit, "Let's Fill Her Up!"
