The Lady Lobos find victory once again and advance to the third round of the WNIT to possibly make this the best week in UNM women's basketball ever!
The great Lobo defense held the Bears scoreless for a little over six minutes until a foul sent Devanei Hampton to the foul line and she sank the free throw. Then UNM went dry and Hampton scored nine consecutive points and the Cal came within eight. Thanks to Jana Francis and Angela Hartill the Lobos had an 11point lead over the bears and went into the locker room with a score of 30-19 at half.

Cal came out of the locker room on fire to score eight points right away cutting the Lobo lead to six. The Lobos soon got tired of it, shut the Bears down and went on an 11-2 run.
Jana Francis scored the next two baskets including her first three of the season making the score 49-33. Ashley Walker caught fire again and started Cal's 9-0 run. In the last minute and a half, with the help of Katie Montgomery and Judy Vogt, the Lobos put the game out of reach and won by nine points, 55-46.
Abbie Letz was the player of the game with the only double double of the game with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Nine of those points were beautiful three-pointer and the other two were free throw shots. Jana Francis and Katie Montgomery also had double digits with 11 points each. The only player for California that scored in double digits was Ashley Walker with 17 points which were all scored in the second half of the game.
Now the Lobos are on their way to host #25 Oklahoma in the third round of the WNIT on the Wednesday, November 16th at 7:00 in The Pit.
Both teams are now 2-0 in the season. The winner of Wednesday's game will carry on to the WNIT finals and will play either Boston College, Connecticut, or Indiana State. The Oklahoma Sooners are lead in assists by Brittany Brown with 3apg. They are lead in scoring and rebounding by Courtney Paris with 21.5ppg and 15rpg.
UNM and OU have only meet six times and the Sooners have a 4-2 advantages over the Lobos. Hopefully that gap will be lessened Wednesday night at The Pit.
It is a great honor to be able to host these WNIT rounds in the Pit re-forcing the fact that UNM has the best and loudest fans in the nation.
