Domination

The women keep the sweep over New Mexico State in all sports intact as they defeat the women of NMSU.

In front of the biggest crowd of the season, 11,327 Lobo faithful witnessed the Lobos extend their winning ways over the New Mexico State Aggies to 21 games in a row. The Lobos come out on fire behind the sizzling hot play of Julie Briody as she finished the night with 18 points of her 23 in the first half.

This was complete domination in all aspects of the game as the Lobos were simply faster, stronger, and more willing to crash the boards. The Lobos would not let the Aggies in the game one bit. We should give some credit to the Aggies as they came out and shot the three point shot earlier as that helped keep them in the game early. But like I said, that was early.

The Lobos were just more willing to sacrifice their bodies for this game and we so much more the aggressive group and in my opinion tonight the Lobos, were flat out the better team on the court, as the Lobos ended the 1st half with a comfortable 47 to 23 lead.

Some thing Coach Flanagan has been talking about a lot this season was winning the rebound side of the game. That is exactly what happened in the 1st half as UNM had a +10 rebound lead going into the locker room, including a 9 to 4 edge on the offensive glass.

Also, it was great to see Lobo guard Katie Montgomery who has been suffering from an early season 3pt. shooting slump get back into the grove as she went 3 for 3 from behind the arc in the opening half of tonight's game.

The 2nd half started out nearly the same, as the Aggies were able to hang around for a little while. Then the Lobos decided to just flip the switch as they went on a run behind Dionne Marsh's 8 points in the 2nd half. Marsh finished with 17 total points for the game as the Lobos ran away with another game in The Pit and another win over the Aggies 81 to 47. Also joining Dionne Marsh and Julie Briody in double figures was Katie Montgomery with 14 point tonight.

Red Menace Player of The Game

Julie Briody was the heart and soul of the Lobos tonight! While finishing with 23 points she also had 6 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block. As well as many hustling plays that helped the Lobos build a nice early lead. She scored 18 of her 23 in the first half!

Meet A Lobo Freshmen

I had the pleasure to sit down and talk to Amy Beggin after the game and take about her time her and what the change for High school to College basketball has been like. Enjoy!

How has your transition for High School to Division 1 Basketball been so far?

It has been really good; it was a little hard at first, the speed and everything. I am finally getting used to it and felling a lot more comfortable!

What is like to be out on the court playing great teams like Texas and the other schools you have been playing as a freshman?

It was great, I played that game on adrenalin (Texas) it was a special game and something I will remember the rest of my life. Just the crowd… the win was unbelievable!

How do you like your role right now as a spark of the bench?

It is my job to come in their, give us a spark and get us going on defense, just try to get us a lead.

Are you enjoying your self at New Mexico?

Yeah, I love everything about it, the school my teammates and coach's.

What makes coach Flanagan so great and makes you want to play for him?

He is just a great teacher and he just knows, everything about the game you can sit there and ask him a question and he will be able to answer. During time outs he is so direct and able to know what they (the other team) are doing.

Do you have a major?

Communication or journalism

Thanks Amy!!
