Tradition Continues

It must be time for the MWC Tournament Championship game because the Lobos are in it!

In what has become an annual tradition the University of New Mexico women's basketball team is once again the championship game.

Don Flanagan gets the point across

Thursday afternoon the Lobos took on the UNLV in what in effect was a home game for the Runnin' Rebels…. Someone should have told the thousands of Lobo fans that made the annual trek to Sin City and cheered the ladies onto a convincing 80-52 victory.

The Lobos opened up the game with a 17-0 run and never looked back. As the trio of Dionne Marsh 19 pts. 5 boards, Valerie Kast 12 pts. 2 rebounds, and Timi E-Nunu 3 pts. 2 rebounds, 2 blocks were dominating in the post.

On Friday afternoon the ladies met up with the 2nd seeded Cowgirls of Wyoming and once again the passionate Lobo fans turned the Thomas and Mack Arena into "The Western Pit" as they enjoyed another dominating game by Flanagan's Lobos.

The night before it was the post play that was dominating, Friday afternoon it was all about the guards as All-MWC team members Katie Montgomery 4 pts. 5 boards 5 assists and Julie Briody 21 points 8 boards 3 steals along with Brandi Kimble 11 pts. And 5 boards combined to lead the women to the MWC championship game as they throttled Wyoming 65-53.

Amy Beggin and Brandi Kimble celebrate another Lobo Victory

The Lobos will be playing the BYU Cougars Saturday afternoon as the Cougars defeated Utah 65-53. Most people feel that the women have done enough for an at large bid to the NCAA tourney, but knowing Flanagan and his team they would rather not leave anything up to anyone else. Looks like a great game, as once again New Mexico owns Las Vegas!
