Cape Fear PF/C to Visit New Mexico

Coach Steve Alford and his staff have been very active on the recruiting front ever since being hired at the University of New Mexico. This weekend that whirlwind continues as the UNM staff welcomes 6-10 Monquel Pegues

TheRedMenace.com has learned that 6-10 256 PF/C  Monquel Pegues from Cape Fear (NC) CC is set to visit the University of New Mexico this weekend. Says, Cape Fear Coach  Ryan Mantlo, "Pegues will be in the air first thing tomorrow morning."

Pegues played high school pall at Wilson Fike HS (Wilson, NC) and signed with High Point. After failing to qualify Pegues started taking classes at Cape Fear and during that time grew another 2 inches while adding bulk to his large frame.

I asked Coach Mantlo about Monquel's game and he said, "Pegues is a good young man that is a big banger with a big body. He was an honorable mention All-American this year who averaged 18.3 points per game and 7.5 boards while playing for the Sea Devils."

"He not only rebounds well," says Coach Mantlo, "but he also holds the school records for points scored in a single game, in a season, and a career. He not only is a good post player but what makes him an even better player is a good free throw shooter hitting 70% from the line."

Coach Mantlo said, "Monquel is being recruiting by UNM, Georgia, UTEP, Arkansas Little-Rock, College of Charleston, George Mason, and Oregon is starting to make a push for his services as well.

TheRedMenace.com would like to thank Coach Mantlo for his time and we look forward to hearing from him after this weekend to update how Monquel's trip went.
