The University of New Mexico has established itself as a place where good offensive linemen affectionately called "The Hitmen" can come to UNM and become very good to great.
Theredmenace.com has learned that 6-3 280 lb JUCO transfer (Holmes CC) has given a "solid commitment" to play for the University of New Mexico and be part of what has become tradition at UNM. "I' committed to play for New Mexico the week after my visit," said Karlin in an over the phone interview we conducted with him this evening.
"I went to visit New Mexico the weekend after Thanksgiving," said Karlin. "I really enjoyed talking with the coaches while I was out there, I really loved the facilities at New Mexico, and really enjoyed myself."
Karlin still wanted to take a few days to talk to his family before making this very important personal decision. "After my visit to New Mexico Coach Reffett came to my house a week later and met my parents. After talking to Coach Reffett and my parents I decided I let them know that I was committing to New Mexico," says Karlin. "I felt at home when I went out there on my visit and felt it was the right decision for me and my family, while I was out there and felt that I could come out there and have an immediate impact."
I play right tackle at Holmes and Coach "Lenz" (OL Coach Jason Lenzmeier) said they want me to play tackle," said Karlin. "I can play any position on the line, but I feel really comfortable at the tackle position."
I asked Karlin what his game on the field was like and he said, "I'm a very physical offensive lineman and that is what I'm going to bring to UNM. I'm not an average offensive lineman as I'm physical and I can run. I have no problem moving out and leading the block to spring running backs and wide receivers."
We would like to thank Karlin Givens for his time and congratulate him for becoming the first "Hitmen" member to commit thus far.
