The University of New Mexico has really started to make a name for themselves on the offensive line as seemingly every year they are putting players in the NFL and on the MWC All-Conference team. This year is no different as UNM has put 2 players on the Mountain West Conference football team. Throw in that the Lobos are losing 3 starters this year to graduation they have worked hard to refill "The Hitmen" position.
Today TheRedMenace.com has learned that UNM has received a verbal commitment from JUCO Offensive Tackle Maurice Mears of Rock Valley CC (Rockford Ill). I spoke with Maurice a couple of weeks ago and new that he was coming to visit this weekend and when I called him this afternoon I had feeling we would be getting some good news.
TRM: So Maurice how did your visit go? What did you do?
MM: I had a great time. I walked around campus, toured the facilities, watched practice, met all the coaches, and ate at some of the restaurants in town. I had a blast.
TRM: Did you come to any decisions?
MM: Before I visited I was offered a scholarship, and they offered again while I was there this weekend. When I got home Sunday and called my mom to talk about the trip. I told her I wanted to be a LOBO! After talking with my mom I called and committed to UNM.
Maurice was receiving huge interest from UNM as well as Arizona, Illinois, Syracuse, Middle Tennessee State, Kansas, Kansas State, and NC State and according to an interview we had with Maurice earlier this year he had visits set up with Arizona and Middle Tennessee State, so we asked Maurice if he was going to take anymore visits. "No, I'm not going to take any other visits, I'm a Lobo," said Maurice.
